From Koh Chang, Hat Lek is the nearest border crossing. The crossing at Hat Lek is not normally busy and completing the relevant paperwork takes about 30 minutes. The return trip between Koh Chang and Hat Lek takes about 6 hours.
Aranyaprathet is the main border point for crossing from Thailand in to Cambodia. This border is busier and better for those who what a return to Bangkok or Pattaya. The return trip from Koh Chang to Aranyaprathet takes about 8 hours.
Those of you wanting to stay in Thailand for longer will need to obtain a Tourist Visa. These can be obtained from the Thai Consulate outside of Thailand. the closest to Koh Chang is Phnom Penh.
Tourist Visa's can be used to stay for up to 60 days and can be extended by 30 days at the nearest Immigration office.
The trip from Koh Chang to Phnom Penh takes about 11 hours. You should plan to stay in Phnom Penh for at least two days while the paper work for your visa is completed.

The cost for a Cambodian Visa is 1,200 baht for the visa and 350 baht for an exit stamp. The exit stamp has to be paid for if you are leaving Cambodia on the same day that you make your visa.

Travellers arriving in Thailand via any land border checkpoint, from a neighbouring country, without a pre arranged visa will get only 15 days of stay.
Travellers arriving in Thailand at an international airport, without a visa, will get 30 days of stay. |
